Have you ever heard the phrase “eat like a local”, or “go where the locals go”? Watch any food or travel show or read any travel magazine and it’ll be there ad nauseam.
One of the issues I’ve found with this is that I’ve lived in the Bay Area almost all my life, and most of the places I eat at are because they’re convenient not because they’re spectacular. I’ve also never been to a bunch of the tourist spots nearby, like the Winchester Mystery House.
This is partially due to being a struggling college student who is short on both time and money. It’s also because I know that it’ll always be there.
To fix this issue I’ve decided to a tourist in my own backyard. I want to eat food that makes me excited and go to places that inspire me to tell everyone I know about it. Sometimes you have to look at a place from a different angle to be able to appreciate it.
