Routine can be a death blow to local exploration. I’ve mentioned before that although I’ve lived nearly all my life in one area, that I haven’t explored much around me. The reason for this is that I develop routines to minimize wasted time, then stick to them unless something forces me to deviate.
When you have the opportunity try a different route to go to work/school/home. Even if you know where are or where you need to go, look at a map to see what business are around you. Ask classmates/co-workers/friends where they like to go, why they like it and what they recommend eating/drinking there.
If you don’t have transportation to go on your own, you feel awkward about eating out by yourself, or worried that you might not like the food? Ask them to go with you. I enjoy going out to eat with friends, because if they’re cool with sharing food, I can try way more dishes than I would have on my own. Especially if it’s something that I wouldn’t normally order for myself like spicy food.
